In 1972, Frank Shorter started a running boom in the United States when he won the marathon gold medal in the Munich Olympics.  In September 1974, that boom echoed in Lynchburg when 174 men and 7 women climbed Fram Basket hill and finished the first Virginia 10 Miler at EC Glass High School.  Fifty Virginia 10 Milers later, that boom continues to reverberate down the streets of Lynchburg on late September Saturdays.

The Virginia 10 Miler is owned and operated by the LRRC.
